How to save recipes from TikTok

Use Favorites to keep a cooking video handy. Write down the recipe too if you want to cook without replaying every step.

Quick answer

To save recipes from TikTok, tap the bookmark icon on the video. Find it later in Profile > Favorites, and use Collections to group your recipes. That saves your route back to the video. For ingredients and steps you can read while cooking, copy the caption into Notes, capture the ingredient frames, or check the creator's bio for a written recipe.

Save a video in TikTok Favorites

  1. Open the recipe video and tap the bookmark icon to add it to Favorites. Button labels can change with updates; look for the bookmark shape.
  2. Go to your Profile and open Favorites, the bookmark tab, when you want to find the video again.
  3. Use Collections to sort your saved recipes. Pick names you will remember when you are hungry, such as weeknight dinners or things to bake.
  4. Open the saved video before you shop. Check that the creator gives ingredient amounts and enough instructions to cook it.

If you are learning how to save recipes on TikTok, this is the quickest method to start with. A few collections are easier to browse than one long list of everything that looked good while scrolling.

What Favorites leaves you to do

The recipe stays inside a video. An amount might be spoken while something else appears on screen, and a useful instruction may flash past before you can read it. You still have to pause and rewind while cooking.

You cannot search your Favorites by ingredient. Collections help you group videos, but they do not pull out a list of everything you could make with the spinach in your fridge. Saved videos can also become unavailable if the creator deletes them or makes them private.

For a recipe you plan to cook this week, keep a written note as well as the bookmark. A saved video can disappear before you get around to dinner.

Copy enough detail to cook from

Check the caption and the creator's bio link before transcribing the whole video. There may already be a written recipe with the details the short clip leaves out.

  1. Copy the recipe caption into Notes when you can. Put the dish name, creator's name and original video link at the top.
  2. Pause on ingredient frames and take screenshots. Copy the amounts into your note so you can read them together instead of moving between pictures.
  3. Watch the cooking sequence and write the steps in order. Include any resting time or instruction about when to add an ingredient.
  4. Mark missing amounts or unclear steps. Recheck the caption or written recipe before buying ingredients; a quick pour on camera does not tell you how much to use.

Keep your own changes separate from the creator's instructions. If you used less chili last time, label that as your adjustment so you know which version you are following.

Turn a TikTok into a recipe with Pinchery

Pinchery is an iPhone app with a TestFlight beta opening soon. It is not on the App Store yet. Once you have access, you can share TikTok videos to it for written ingredients and steps.

  1. Tap Share on the TikTok video, then More or Share to to open the iOS share sheet.
  2. Choose Pinchery. It reads the video and caption and writes down the ingredients and steps, usually in under a minute.
  3. Change the servings to 1, 2, 4 or 6 if needed. You can also get ingredient swaps for your country and see estimated calories per serving.

The saved recipe keeps the creator's name and a link to the original post. You can go back to watch a technique, such as how the dough should look before shaping.

Check the written recipe before starting

Read the ingredient list alongside the steps. Make sure you know when each ingredient goes in and whether anything needs preparation before you turn on the stove. A recipe note is much easier to fix while the pan is still cold.

For a manually copied recipe, the recipe scaler can help adjust ingredient amounts to the number you are feeding. Keep the original serving count in your note so you have a clear starting point.

Keep the creator with the recipe

Follow the cook whose recipe you liked and keep their name and original link in your notes. Watch the original when you need to see the technique again. Saving a recipe for your own cooking does not mean you should repost their video.

If your recipes also live in Reels, the Instagram saving guide covers Saved and Collections there.

Questions

Where do saved recipes go on TikTok?

Videos you bookmark go to Profile > Favorites, under the bookmark tab. Use Collections there to group them into recipe categories.

Can I save a TikTok recipe as text?

Favorites keeps the video available to revisit; it does not write out the recipe. Copy the caption into Notes and add any ingredients or instructions that appear only in the video.

Can I search saved TikTok recipes by ingredient?

You cannot search Favorites by ingredient. Give your Collections useful names, or keep written recipes in notes you can search.

Will a saved recipe stay if the creator deletes the video?

A bookmark will not preserve a deleted or private video. Keep the recipe text for anything you intend to cook, with credit and the original link.

Is there a TikTok recipe saver for iPhone?

Pinchery is an iPhone recipe app with a TestFlight beta opening soon. It reads TikTok videos and captions into ingredients and steps, but it is not on the App Store yet.
